So here’s a short reclist of my favourite Destiel!Detectives/Law Enforcement/Cops AU!
Go read these beautiful works!
P.S: The art is mine and it’s made on photoshop with a photo reference from some promotional photos the boys made some time ago. Sam’s not there because a) this is a destiel reclist and b) I can’t draw Sam like at all.
Anyway. Here are my favs!
Rock and Roll, by Epicureal
Detective Castiel Novak is renowned for two things; his unbroken arrest streak, and his refusal to work with a partner. So when he asks Dean for help on what looks like an open-and-shut case, he’s expecting to play yes-man to a pompous ass. Instead, the two of them get dragged into something bigger, and much more sinister, than either expect.
At least they’ve got a great soundtrack to do it by.
Shake, Rattle and Roll by Ealasaid
“Oh come on now,” Dean Winchester said slyly, throwing in a wink. Agent Castiel Novak of the FBI only blinked—not that Dean had expected much else after his year-long professional relationship with the guy, it was still fun to try to ruffle him—and shook his head in irritation. Dean saw him opening his mouth to argue further and beat him to the punch. “I mean, okay. Maybe this actually was a parent being an asshole and drowning their kid in the nearest lake, no kelpies involved. But there is no way that series of fires last month wasn’t an arsonist demon serial murderer.”
A Beginner’s Guide To Communing With The Dead, by suspiciousflashlight
Maybe it’s the little girl whose disappearance turned into a murder, and whose murder turned into a cold case, and who has now apparently decided to move in with him. Maybe it’s the unacceptable hole left in his life when his dumb best friend and partner in (the prevention of) crime decided to go and get himself killed. Maybe it’s his brother, whose high-profile career and fantastic girlfriend and first-child-on-the-way are steadily leaving Dean in the dust. Pick one. Pick all of them. The why doesn’t matter so much as the what, and the what is this: Dean is pretty sure he’s going completely, certifiably insane. Sure, he hasn’t started wearing all his clothes inside out, and he still showers on a regular basis (anyways, that’s not crazy, just a little eccentric); but there’s no getting around the fact that he just threw away his life, his career, and his reputation by dragging out his mom’s old necromancy book and summoning a Class A Forbidden Entity to his attic. A cranky one, too. With horrendous bed-head.
Angel Slayer (Cockles) by emwebb17
FBI Special Agent Jensen Ackles tracked a serial killer dubbed the Angel Slayer for six months in Washington, DC—the murderer was vicious, depraved, carved the names of angels into the victims’ chests…and eluded capture. Over eight years later, a murder in small Elton, NH has too many similarities for Jensen to ignore. Paired with a green agent, Jared Padalecki, Jensen travels to Elton to solve the case that has been haunting him for nearly a decade. In the course of the investigation the agents come across a local police officer named Misha Collins—who may have a deadly connection to the Angel Slayer.
A Mighty Dark Night by blue_fjords
Detective Dean Winchester meets Homeland Security Agent Castiel James over a corpse.
Below Skyscrapers by aesc
”Castiel, this is Detective Winchester,” Bobby’s saying, voice rough and real. It’s a distraction, although a brief one, the angel glancing at him before studying Dean again with that same silent intensity. “He’ll be on the Circle Murders too.”
Excerpts from Carver Edlunds Magnum Opus, by twentysomething
“C’mon, Cas, it’s like we’re Mulder and Scully, this is totally X-Files,” he says expansively, waving a hand around. It makes his tie flap and momentarily obscure the new and distracting belt buckle that just says “LUCKY” in huge, embarrassing reflective script in the early morning light. Castiel just stares blankly at him.
"I don’t know what that means," Cas replies. Dean sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose under the bright yellow sunglasses.
Kiss You When It’s Dangerous, by zoemathemata
When his partner Uriel, betrays him, Federal Agent Castiel Novak is saved from becoming a ritual sacrifice by brothers Dean and Sam Winchester. Discovering the world of the supernatural and learning about werewolves, wendigoes, vampires and things that go bump in the night also leads to learning more about Dean and the strange life he and his brother lead. The more he learns, the more Castiel finds himself drawn into Dean’s world and toward Dean himself.
Until Uriel wants to complete the ritual he started.
Aaaaand obviously my absolute favourite, which isThe Way The War Was Won, by deans1911. The story has been unfortunately taken down by the author BUT you can find the file download at this link.
Since it’s still circulating in pdf form I assume the author is still ok with us reading it, but to be sure I’ll try to contact him and if he’s not I’ll take this link out.
